Takamine dreadnought with mahogany top and body which has a lot of dynamics, a big tone with emphasis on a warm midrange.
All models in Takamine's Global Line got a slighty shorter scale (distance between nut and bridge saddle) this reduces the string tension and the instrument is easier to play. All GL-Models are equipped with a pickup and TP-3G preamp which includes a tuner as well as a 3-band EQ. The Global Line offers two different body shapes NEX & Dreadnought. NEX has a small body with a narrow waist which gives an instrument that despite the small size is loud and gives a broad tone all thru the range. The dreadnought-design has roots already back in the late 19th century and is what many would consider to be THE traditional body shape for steel stringed acoustic guitars. It is loud and delivers more tone in the bass- and lower midrange. Global Line offers two different tonewoods for the top, spruce or mahogany. The spruce gives a direct tone with a lot of focus on the high's and the low's while the character of the mahogany is a bit softer as it has a wider midrange.
It was the by end of the 50's the small family business begun to produce guitars in Japan. Just a few years later the company took the name Takamine inspired by the mountian close to the production facilites. In 1978 Takamine revolutionized the acoustic electric guitars by developing the Palathetic Pickup. Takamine has continued to write history with their design, new ideas and great quality. Many are the artists all around the globe that have relied on Takamine as their main instrument throughout the years.
Its longstanding devotion to innovation and continual improvement has placed it among the world’s premier acoustic guitar makers, with truly fine instruments that are the first choice of performing guitarists worldwide.
With humble beginnings in 1959 as a small family-run guitar shop nestled at the foot of Mount Takamine in the central Japanese town of Sakashita, the fledgling company took the mountain’s name in 1962 and began in earnest the journey that led to the phenomenal success that is the modern Takamine company.
The timeline outlines that remarkable evolution.
