Germanium / Silicon Transistor Gain Boost

The Aces Hybrid Amplifier found its origins in RCA data sheets from the 1950s. Simple 2 stage gain circuits utilizing germanium transistors, the only kind available at the time. Daredevil wanted to use the same approach, but give it the Daredevil treatment, creating something unique that nailed a tone bouncing around in founder Johnny’s head. The end result cranks out the warm, sweet sustain of germanium, while having that biting rock n roll gain on top - nailing the best of both worlds. Great for solo boosts, a leave-on effect or stacking with other pedals. The Aces sounds best in front of any buffered bypass pedals.

Under the hood is 1 NOS Germanium and 1 modern silicon transistor, each tested and biased to give optimal tonal definition and response. The two internal trim pots set the bias for each gain stage, you should not need to adjust these for any reason.

The knob controls your output level. Turn it up, stomp, off you go…

From his origins in an 8’x10’ unheated basement shop, all the way to designing circuits for Dunlop and Electro Harmonix, Johnny Wator has driven Daredevil as a true labor of love and obsession. After over a decade of touring in a band, the desire to create his own tones led to the development of the brand and the first line of pedals available in 2012.

Initially building old school point to point and strip board circuits, the Daredevil roots lie in an affection for vintage circuits from the 60’s & 70’s, big ol’ hand wired tone machines. Almost all of Daredevil pedals are original design circuits that capture something unique, and fill a sonic void in Johnny’s personal quest for musical expression. There is a continual cycle of seeking out new ideas and approaches to classic tones for the modern age that fuels the progress.

Connecting with other musicians and hopefully inspiring them to create something exciting has always been the goal and reward that keeps this train chugging along. So spread the fuzz and grab yourself something cool to play through from Daredevil pedals. Hand built in Chicago, since day 1.
